Burnt Biscuits

It's not hard to look around and see people everywhere who are sad, frustrated, depressed..hopeless. We find ourselves trying to live up to a standard that can never be achieved, for when we make it to the next rung of the ladder, there is another rung yet to be climbed.

We, as women, put so much unnecessary stress on ourselves. We have the media telling us we must be a certain size, wear our make-up and hair a certain way.

We must wear a certain brand of clothing, drive a certain car and keep a spotless house.

We look at neighbor So&So's children and think that if only our children can achieve that kind of scholastic recognition or if our husbands can land that kind of job.

Likewise our precious husbands and children busy themselves trying to live up to the very same lines we've been fed.

It's no wonder that families all around us are falling apart at the seams.

We have reality tv shows that take out of control teenagers and send them to a strict family for a week to whip them into shape.

Need a mate? How about starting out with 10 or 15 men or women..depending..and narrowing it down to that 'perfect' life mate. Now, in order to pick the right person, you must drink and have sex with many of them. Wouldn't want to end up with a dud now would you??

It's obvious that people are looking for the perfect life and what they cannot grasp is that here on this earth, it will never exist. Perfection is only found in Christ Himself and our job is to live our lives by the guidelines He has set forth in His Word.

We major on so many things that just don't matter..and never will.

I want to share an e-mail that I got a few weeks ago. It gives a very perfect lesson and if we could all just wrap our hearts and minds around it, just imagine how wonderful life could be..........

Burnt Biscuits

When I was a little boy, my Mom liked to make breakfast food for dinner every now and then. And I remember one night in particular when she had made breakfast after a long, hard day at work. On that evening so long ago, my Mom placed a plate of eggs, sausage and extremely burned biscuits in front of my Dad. I remember waiting to see if anyone noticed! Yet all my Dad did was reach for his biscuit, smile at my Mom and ask me how my day was at school. I don't remember what I told him that night, but I do remember watching him smear butter and jelly on that biscuit and eat every bite!

When I got up from the table that evening, I remember hearing my Mom apologize to my dad for burning the biscuits. And I'll never forget what he said: "Baby, I love burned biscuits."
Later that night, I went to kiss Daddy good night and I asked him if he really liked his biscuits burned. He wrapped me in his arms and said, "Your Momma put in a hard day at work today and she's real tired. And besides - a little burnt biscuit never hurt anyone!"

You know, life is full of imperfect things.....and imperfect people. I'm not the best mechanic..husband or dad. What I've learned over the years is that learning to accept each other's faults - and choosing to celebrate each other's differences – is one of the most important keys to creating a healthy, growing, and lasting relationship.

And that's my prayer for you today. That you will learn to take the good, the bad, and the ugly parts of your life and lay them at the feet of God. Because in the end, He's the only One who will be able to give you a relationship where a burnt biscuit isn't a deal-breaker!

In allowing God to love others through us, we might just see His Kingdom and our happiness grow.....
